“Take my hand! No! Don’t you let go!” Samwise yelled as Frodo hung on for dear life.
Have you ever found yourself in a situation when your fight depended on the fight left in the other person?
I can’t imagine what Frodo must have felt as he held tight to the ledge. Did he realize that in the desire to keep the ring he was fighting for the wrong thing? Did he wish for the Shire; thinking it was an impossible dream?
As Samwise bent down to help his friend, it was clear that he would help His friend at all cost. Perhaps he thought, if you have no strength left, take some of mine!
As I watch this dramatic exchange, a tear falls from my eye. I see this battle being fought in the life of my son and my Moma bear instinct is crying out, “Let me fight for him! What can I do Lord? “Who can I talk to?”
I hear the quiet whisper of my Father say, “Daughter this battle is best fought on your knees. He has to reach out his hand.”
Oh my heart.... I am a Helper, a Melancholy, an ENFJ, quitting is not my thing. (Even if I am Tempted sometimes.)
“Did the Father quit when the prodigal son was in the pen with the pigs?” My Father asked.
“Well, no.”
“Your son will return as well, but first he must choose. And you must let him. And just like Samwise, the moment he chooses you can be there to help him up. In the meantime Daughter, Be still and let me fight for you. If you need faith, borrow some of mine.”
The fire is getting hot in this furnace of affliction. I don’t know what God is doing but I am fighting on my knees. And I know my God will fulfill the promises He has made.
I trust You Lord.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 NIV
